Before You Go Abroad
Before you go there
are a few things to consider.
Pre-Departure Orientation
You need to participate in a pre-departure
orientation session held each semester for students going off-campus. You will
be notified of the date by email (usually in November in the fall and March in
the spring).
The following items will help also help prepare you further for
your time off campus:
Passport
If you do not already have a Passport, apply for one immediately.
Click HERE for Passport Application Information.
If you already have a Passport, be sure to check the
"expiration date" and make sure that your passport is valid for at
least 6 months after your program term ends. If you need to renew your
passport, do so now.
Visa
Most countries (not all) will require you to register as a visitor
and/or student before you arrive in that country. The process to obtain a visa
is different for every country, thus it is important to determine what are the
visa requirements for the country/-ies to you will travel to during your time
abroad. Follow the visa application process carefully and thoroughly.
This process can take anywhere from one day to several months, therefore it is
better to begin several months in advance. If you are working with one of our
sponsored organizations, they will send you a complete package about what you
need to do. Look in the “Resources” area to learn more about visas by country.
The organization that you will be working with overseas will also give you
specific, current visa information.
Registration
Register at Malone during the usual registration period. You are
studying in a Malone sponsored program. This makes you a Malone student that
happens to be studying at a different location. You still need to register for
the semester. Go to the Registrar’s Office and let them know you will be
studying off-campus the following semester. They will walk you through the
necessary process.
